Tomorrow I'm meeting with some old friends/collaborators (and a few new) to collaboratively write a final chapter for the second edition of Rethinking Pedagogy for a Digital Age. I'm slightly nervous about the collaborative writing aspect - coordinating people across several timezones and a larger number of theoretical perspectives to produce a coherent text in a few hours will not be easy. But I'm excited to be focusing on 'the future of e-learning', with all its risk of egg-on-face.
Topics I hope will be included in our final piece:
- the open vs closed internet, and specifically how that impacts on the opportunities for open educational practices to evolve and spread
- digital literacy, and specifically how we develop critically techno-literate individuals with an awareness of how digital systems design our world and actions in it, as well as offering themselves for use
- mobile technologies and specifically the convergence of real and virtual space through ubiquitous connectivity and the use of geolocational data
I'm hoping to gather more ideas from the twitterverse and also on a live googledoc that you can access here.

Society needs to decide what it wants ppl being educated *for*. No joined up thinking here (imho)
Diploma factories have little or nothing to do with pedagogy. Teaching to test is just behavioural 'training' (stimulus/reward)
Outputs of pedagogy must motivate & develop independant learners. Tech must be integrated imho

Society will lag behind, and kick back against tech and early adopters; need agility to deal with this
'Teach' core skills, but focus on motivation and scaffolding. Ped must help learners dev roadmaps
network as tool; data as tool; tools emerge from data, not platform-as-tool; 'tech' facilitates - the platform (e.g. Twitter) is the facilitator of the data-rich 'tool' we actually use which is the social-network (personal learning network); the "tools" only emerge from the underlying tech once the system is in use and has data populated by its users. The same is likely to be true of future eLearning systems. The data should be available to be migrated between systems as the underlying 'tech' (e.g. Twitter) is actually eclipsed in importance by the content shared on it.
